Waterloo Schools Report $21.1M Financial Turnaround

Waterloo Community School District officials say the district moved from a $20 million general fund deficit in fiscal 2025 to a $1.1 million surplus in fiscal 2026. That represents a $21.1 million improvement in one year. Waterloo schools also reported a $21.8 million general fund deficit in fiscal 2024. District officials credited a three-year budget plan, spending reductions, operational changes and increased property tax revenue for the improvement. District officials add that general fund spending fell by about $4.5 million during fiscal 2026, while revenue increased by about $16.6 million.
