Waverly Man Dies In September Motorcycle Crash

A Waverly man died from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle crash last month in rural Black Hawk County. The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s office says 67-year old Richard Menninga was riding his Harley Davidson Trike north on Highway 63 on September 11 when a Chevy Impala turned onto the highway from West Cedar Wapsi Road near the intersection around 8:40 p.m. The Impala, driven by 22-year-old Brady Barta of Fort Atkinson, was hit by the motorcycle. Barta was not hurt in the crash. Menninga was taken by ambulance to Unity Point Allen Hospital in Waterloo before being airlifted to the University of Iowa Healthcare Medical Center in Iowa City. Menninga died from his injuries on September 29. The crash remains under investigation.
