Trial for Waterloo AMBER Alert Suspect Delayed One Week

The trial for a Michigan man accused of kidnapping and grooming a minor from Waterloo is now being delayed by one week. Prosecutors in the AMBER Alert case earlier this year asked for the delay last week but did not specify why.  A judge agreed Tuesday to delay it a week. The trial for Daniyal Khan was scheduled to start on Tuesday, September 1st. He is charged with kidnapping, enticing a minor under 13, child stealing, grooming, indecent contact with a child, and having images of a minor in a sex act. In April, investigators say Khan, an Ann Arbor, Michigan man, kidnapped a 12-year-old girl from her home in Waterloo. Investigators say he groomed her online, drove to Iowa, and watched the child from outside her home for more than a day before picking her up and driving back to Michigan. Khan was arrested in Berrien County, Michigan, 400 miles from Waterloo not long after an AMBER Alert was issued. The girl was found safe and returned home. Khan waived his right to a speedy trial in July. His trial was then scheduled for September.
