Marlys L. Cuvelier, 85, Parkersburg

Marlys Ladell Cuvelier, age 85, was born the daughter of Andrew and Mabel (Jungling) Bergman, September 26, 1940, in rural New Hartford. She was baptized at a young age at Stout Reform Church, Stout, Iowa. Marlys graduated from New Hartford High School in 1958. She continued her education at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, where she received her teaching degree in speech and language pathology, graduating in 1962. Marlys began her teaching career in the fall of 1962, in the Sioux County school system.

On July 21, 1962, Marlys Ladell Bergman was united in marriage with L. James “Jim” Cuvelier at the Reformed Church of Stout in Stout. The couple moved to Sheffield in 1965, then in 1979 they made their home in Parkersburg, where Marlys taught in the Butler County school systems.

Marlys was an active member of Hope Reformed Church where she served in various capacities. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, fishing vacations in Minnesota, annual Cedar Falls Bible Conference and family gatherings. She will be remembered for her bright blue eyes and her joyful spirit.

Marlys passed away, June 16, 2026, at Maple Manor Village in Aplington from natural causes. She was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Kristen and Sarah; her parents, Andrew and Mabel; stepmom, Esther; a sister, Esther; mother and father-in-law, Sam and Doris; six brothers-in-law, John, George, Craig, Ross, Ted and Bob; and two sisters-in-law, Joiclyn and Dorothy.

Marlys is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Jim Cuvelier; one son, Tim (Shelli) Cuvelier of Parkersburg; two daughters, Stephanie VanRaden of Parkersburg and Samantha (Dave) Price of Aplington; eight grandchildren, Christian (Nicole) Price, Kollin (Katie) Cuvelier, Andrew (Remington) VanRaden, Abbie (Tanner) Williams, Carter (Brenna) Cuvelier, Aaron (friend, Lauren Conrey) Price, Emalee (fiancé, Gabe Santoiemma) Price and Kaitlin (Owen) Thomas; five great-grandchildren, Trey, Jordyn, Lennon, Marlowe, and Adler; three sisters, Lois DeBerg, Wilma Barkhoff and Ruth Roskamp; one brother Harlan (Marilyn) Bergman; one brother-in-law, Walter (Marie) Cuvelier; and two sisters-in-law, Linda (Harlan) Pruin and Jan (Dick) Pautvein.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at the Hope Reformed Church with Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery, both of Parkersburg.

Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services – Parkersburg Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
