Valley Lutheran School Principal Faces Added Charge In Sex Case

A school principal in Cedar Falls is facing an additional charge following his arrest in Waterloo. 

Late last week, 40-year old Lucas Tanney, the 6th-12th grade principal at Valley Lutheran School, was arrested for sexual exploitation of a minor.

Waterloo police say Tanney has now been charged with grooming, a class D felony, in addition to his previous charge. Police say Tanney had unlawful sexual conduct with a juvenile female student.

The school’s executive director said last Friday that the school administration is aware of the situation and that Tanney has been placed on administrative leave while they await further information. 

According to court records, Tanney’s next preliminary hearing is set for June 11th.
