Valley Lutheran Principal, Coach Charged With Student Exploitation

A principal and track coach at Valley Lutheran School was arrested on a felony charge after police say he had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student.

40-year old Lucas Tanney of Waterloo, was taken into custody without incident on Friday and booked into the Black Hawk County Jail. He faces a charge of sexual exploitation by a school employee, which is a Class D felony.

Police received a report Thursday about an alleged inappropriate relationship between Tanney and a juvenile female student at the school. Detectives say the unlawful sexual conduct happened at Tanney’s home. The investigation continues. No other details have been released.
