Columbus Catholic boys golf wins 2A State Tournament, Grundy Center’s Jirovsky individual champion

The second and final round of the high school boys golf State Tournaments took place today in Class 3A, 2A and 1A.

In the Class 2A State Tournament at South Hills in Waterloo, Columbus Catholic held on to its first round lead, shooting another 305 (610 total) to win the championship by four strokes. Rock Valley finished second with a 614, while Grundy Center and Aplington-Parkersburg tied for third shooting 625.

Individually, Grundy Center’s Judd Jirovsky won the 2A title, shooting a second round six-under par, 66, finishing five-under for the tournament. Rock Valley’s Trey Swanson was the runner up, finishing the two-round tournament two-under par.

Aplington-Parkersburg’s Benny Waller finished fourth at four-over par.

Max Mudd was Columbus Catholic’s top individual, finishing tied for seventh at six-over par. Teammates Camden Brenden (+8), Thomas Fereday (+10) and Alec Mudd (+10) finished tied for 11th, tied for 15th, and tied for 15th, respectively.

The Sailors win is their second consecutive Class 2A team championship.

Jirovsky’s win is his second Class 2A individual championship.
