Betty L. “Teddy” Olson, 89, Parkersburg

Betty Lou “Teddy” Olson, 89, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was the daughter of Raymond and Rose Mary (Plekkenpol) Nieters. She was born on July 22, 1936, in Shakopee, Minnesota, and graduated from Rochester High School.
On September 19, 1953, she was united in marriage to James Olson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Rochester, Minnesota, until May of 1955, when they moved to Elk Run Heights, Iowa. They resided there for the next fourteen years before moving to Parkersburg in 1968, where they resided for the duration of their lives. During this time, Teddy worked at Herberger’s Department Store and the White Bear Café before later retiring from Kwik Star.
Teddy was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, where she enjoyed spending time with the quilting group and attending Bible study. She had a vibrant spirit and a passion for a wide variety of crafts, especially quilting and gardening.
Teddy passed on Friday, April 24, 2026, at Parker Place in Parkersburg, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Olson; her son, Mark Olson; a great-grandchild, Aubrey Lucas; two sisters, Carol and Shirley; and her son-in-law, Mark Arends.
Teddy is survived by her son, Randall Olson of Holland, Iowa; her daughters, Michele Arends of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Denise Olson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; ten grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson, Minnesota.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be determined at a later date.
