Black Hawk County Supervisors To Ask Schwartz To Resign Tuesday

The Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors will introduce a resolution at its regular meeting Tuesday, calling on Supervisor Chris Schwartz to resign. Schwartz, who was elected to the board in 2016, was first arrested last October on two counts of sexual abuse stemming from incidents that allegedly occurred in 2023. Last week, Schwartz was arrested again on a third-degree sexual abuse charge related to a separate incident that allegedly occurred in 2024. After last week’s arrest, Black Hawk County Supervisors Tavis Hall and Justin Brandt posted on social media, encouraging Schwartz to step down. Under Iowa Code § 66.1A, elected officials may only be removed from office by a district court, which means a resolution like this would only serve as a formal and non-binding call for the member to resign.
The supervisors’ meeting is scheduled for 9 AM Tuesday.
