Teen Driver Injured After High Speed Drag Race In Cedar Falls

Two people were arrested after a late-night street race in Cedar Falls ended in a crash early Sunday morning in Waterloo. Just after 1 AM, Cedar Falls Police spotted two cars, a 2014 Infiniti Q50 and a 2008 Acura TL, racing at high speeds. When officers tried to pull them over, both drivers took off. Police chased the Infiniti, which sped away at speeds up to 100 mph before the driver lost control and slammed into a utility pole near US Highway 218 and Broadway Street in Waterloo. The driver, a 17-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries and was taken into custody. The driver of the Acura, 20-year-old Skylar Wurzer, later returned to the crash scene and was also arrested. Both drivers are facing charges related to reckless driving, eluding, and drag racing. The teen driver is also charged with additional offenses, including failing to maintain control of the vehicle and a weapons-related violation.
Cedar Falls Police were assisted by MercyOne Paramedics, Waterloo Police, Waterloo Fire Rescue, Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, and Black Hawk County Consolidated Dispatch.
