Donald “Don” Peters, 80, Washburn

Donald ‘Don’ Peters, 80, of Washburn, died Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital. He was born November 5, 1945, the youngest of ten children born to Claus and Belle (Jansen) Peters. He graduated from Sac City High School and attended UNI.
While in High School he began dating Connie Olson, he was on the football team, and she was Homecoming Queen. After high school, they both moved to Cedar Falls to attend UNI. They were later married on August 11, 1968. Don was a devoted husband to Connie who he affectionately called Raeburn. Together they raised two children and were always present for their children’s events. This commitment continued when they became grandparents, never missing birthdays or important events.
Don worked as a Metallurgical Engineer at John Deere. He was a member of the Waterloo Elks Club, and the Moose Lodge. He was also the “Norm” of Moe’s One More Lounge in Washburn. Don was a very social person, always the life of the party, he never met a stranger. He loved being goofy.
He and Connie spent many weekends at dances throughout the years. He also enjoyed golf, and yardwork, especially riding his John Deere mower, oldies music and Westerns.
Don loved his family above all. He kept his siblings connected while they were alive with regular phone calls and stayed in touch with his nieces and nephews. He was a great Dad and loving husband. Poker nights with his family would sometimes turn into weekend events.
He is survived by his wife, Connie; his children: Becky Anderson of Alabaster, AL, and Brian Peters of Kansas City, KS; grandchildren: Colton and Katie Anderson, Lexi and Aiden Peters, and great-granddaughter Paisley Anderson; brothers and sisters in law: John Lympus, Denny (Karen) Olson, Kathy Capps, Karen (Keith) Wittry, and Kristi (Jim) Bueltel, as well as countless nieces and nephews who knew him as Uncle Donnie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law Duane and Betty Olson; brothers: Melvin, Lyle and Howard Peters; and sisters, Donna Mae Peters, Velma Arnette, Eunice Crosser, Sharon O’Neal, Wanda Martin, and Judy Lympus.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, April 3, 2026, at Locke at Tower Park, Waterloo, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM. Condolences may be left at www.lockefuneralservices.com
