Darlene E. Nicklaus, 88, Parkersburg

Darlene Elaine Nicklaus, age 88, of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of George J. and Katie (DeVries) Seehusen, on February 2, 1938, in Dike, Iowa.

On June 8, 1956, Darlene was united in marriage to Darwin William Nicklaus at the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg. They lived most of their married life on the family farm north of Parkersburg. In June 2011, Darlene and Darwin moved into Parkersburg to her current home. Darlene was a homemaker and worked in area restaurants until she retired in 2011.

Darlene was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School and a was a member of the Ladies Guild.  She volunteered as a 4-H leader, and she was known for her wonderful baked goodies, especially her coconut cream pie.  Darlene was a loving and dedicated grandmother, and her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Darlene died on Monday, March 30, 2026, at her home.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Darwin Nicklaus; parents, George and Katie Seehusen; son in-law, Ron Schlawin; grandson, Daran Cordes; brother, Roger (Sharon) Seehusen; and sister, Arvilla (Gary) Irwin.

Darlene is survived by her daughters, Delaine (Rod) Cordes of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Delawn (Dan) Emerson of Marshalltown, Iowa; five grandchildren, Sara (Brian) Halbur, Krystle (Joe) Primus, Nick (Amber) Cordes, Kaitlin (Marcus) Rasmus, Max (Brookelyn) Schlawin; eleven great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Allison, Isabelle, Owen, Collin, Sloane, Kaden, Dawsyn, Dallas, Brody and Anslee; and two sisters, Marlys (David) Fisher of Hubbard, Iowa, and Cathy (Daryl) Myers of Parkersburg.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026, at the First Congregational Church with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services – Parkersburg Funeral Home.
