Waterloo Woman Dies, Three Others Injured

The names of those involved in a two-vehicle crash near Austin, Minnesota on Saturday have been released, including three from Waterloo. 73-year old Ana Farias De Torres of Waterloo died in the crash, after she was trapped inside. The driver of the car, 69-year old Ignacio Torres Valencia of Waterloo had serious injuries, and a second passenger, 26 year old Giovanni Hilario Torres Birrueta of Waterloo had minor injuries. The pickup truck driver, 60-year old Kenneth Harstad of Austin had minor injuries. The crash happened Saturday afternoon at the intersection of two county roads near Rose Creek, Minnesota, when the southbound car and northbound truck crashed. The truck was towing a flatbed trailer and the car caught on fire. The Mower County Sheriff’s office says weather and roadway conditions were believed to have been contributing factors in the crash.
