Post-Special Waterloo Election Audit Shows Perfect Match

Following the February 24 Special City Election in Waterloo, Black Hawk County officials conducted the required post-election audit on Thursday, February 26. The audit confirmed a perfect match between the hand count and the election night results from the voting machines.  Under Iowa law, the Secretary of State randomly selects one precinct in each county for the audit the day after the election. This year, the chosen precinct was Waterloo Ward 2, Precinct 4.  Elections staff supervised a hand count of all votes cast at Crossroads Community Church and compared the totals to the machine results. This process helps ensure transparency and reinforces public confidence in the integrity of elections.  County Auditor Karen Showalter said in the release, “We’re proud to report that this post-election audit, like all previous audits and recounts, verified the accuracy of our voting machines. It’s another demonstration of the reliability and integrity of our election process, giving voters confidence that every vote is accurately counted.”
