Over Half-Dozen North Iowa Law Enforcement Agencies Respond to Purported Swatting Call

Over a half-dozen north Iowa law enforcement agencies responded to what authorities believe was a suspected swatting incident after receiving calls about a potential homicide.
According to Mitchell County (MCSO) Sheriff Greg Beaver, calls were received by the Mitchell and Howard county communication centers just after 1:30 am Monday (02.23) regarding a possible murder in Riceville. Law enforcement agencies responded and established a perimeter in the area, and it was concluded that no homicide had occurred.
Beaver said further investigation indicates it was a suspected swatting call, designed to lure law enforcement into a specific area or have first responders respond to an incident that is false in nature.
Beaver says information provided by the caller has been turned over to the Iowa Fusion Center, Department of Public Safety for further investigation.
Agencies responding to the incident included the Howard, Mitchell, Floyd, Chickasaw and Winneshiek county sheriff’s offices, plus the Iowa State Patrol and the State Patrol tactical team, plus Osage Police and Riceville Fire and Ambulance Services.
Beaver asks anyone with information regarding the incident that might aid the investigation to contact law enforcement in their area.
