UPDATE: Cedar Falls Carjacking Suspect Identified

The name of the man police say tried to rob the Marine Recruiting Center in Cedar Falls on New Year’s Eve has been released. Linn County Sheriff’s officials say 32-year old Samuel Reese III of Center Point, Alabama, is continuing to recover from injuries after he was shot by officers near Hiawatha. Cedar Falls Police say they responded to a robbery at the Marine Recruitment Office on Brandilynn Boulevard around 8:30 on Wednesday morning, where a Dodge Durango SUV was taken. Deputies later saw the SUV on Interstate 380 and gave chase. They then chased him on foot as he ran into a nearby field and exchanged gunfire. Reese was shot and wounded. No officers were injured. Charges in the case are still pending, and no motive for the initial robbery has been disclosed.
