Steve Boyd, 71, Waterloo

Steve Boyd, 71, of Waterloo, died Saturday, December 13, 2025, at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center. He was born May 11, 1954, in Waterloo, son of Melvin and Georgianna Jean (Hugle) Boyd.

He graduated from West High School in 1973. Steve worked for his dad at Mel’s Market and owned and operated Tasty Crème there. He also worked for Embers, John Deere, Frito Lay, car dealerships in Florida and California including Exotic Cars, Weber’s Cycle Center, and retired from PPG Paint.

Steve married the love of his life, Sue Fox McDowell, on September 26, 2015, at a racing themed wedding. They met in 7th grade, but reconnected when Steve won a date with Sue at a benefit auction.

Known to be a talker, Steve also went out of his way to take care of everyone, especially Sue. They enjoyed going on long drives, one favorite time on the Cassville Ferry, and attending car shows and races. Steve raced sports cars and motorcycles in his earlier years. He was also an avid camper and enjoyed bonfires. He followed auctions and was good at finding people whatever they were looking for from the auctions. He also enjoyed target shooting.

Steve is survived by his wife, Sue; his sister, Diane (Michael) Gallagher of East Dubuque; his step-children, Jamey Fox of Waterloo and Amy (Michael) Fleming of Grundy Center; grandchildren Jocelyn and Peyton Fox, Carsyn Hruska, and Brennan, Landon, and Adalyn Fleming; great-grandchildren, Liam, Zayn and Kash Warrior; sister-in-law Patty (Richard) Judas of Waterloo; brother-in-law David (Kim) Huntbach of Waterloo; nieces Julie (Artie) Kaloz and Dana Judas O’Connell; nephews Richie Judas and Dylan Huntbach; great-niece Grace Kaloz; and close friend Lydia Rewerts. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 1:00 – 4:00PM, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave. Memorials may be directed to the family.
