Ervin J. Haan, 90, Parkersburg

Ervin Jack Haan, age 90, formerly of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the son of George and Margaret (Schurman) Haan, on November 28, 1934, on their farm near Kesley, Iowa.  He attended country school and graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1953.

On June 9, 1956, Ervin was united in marriage with Peggy Jean Brandt in Austin, Minnesota.  Ervin was inducted in the United States Army on January 8, 1957, and was honorably discharged on January 7, 1959.

During Ervin’s time in the service at Ft. Benning, they lived in Georgia, then moved back to Iowa.  The couple lived in the Cedar Valley area and Parkersburg until 1983, when they moved to Cocoa, Florida.  After their retirement, Ervin and Peggy returned to Parkersburg.

Ervin worked as a carpenter for Wendall Lockard Construction in Waterloo.  He worked his way up to Construction Superintendent, supervising many commercial building projects in the Cedar Valley area until 1983.  In 1983, Ervin worked as a Construction Superintendent, building condominiums for Marinoff Construction and later the American Bank, in Cocoa Beach, Florida.  Ervin retired in 1996.

Ervin trusted in Christ as his Savior at the age of 12 through the Holy Scripture, Romans 10:9.  He was in fellowship with the Christians at the Stout Gospel Hall and the Cedar Falls Gospel Hall while living in Iowa, and the DeLand Gospel Hall while living in Florida. Ervin enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and bowling.  Ervin always looked forward to his checker games with Russell Alberts as well as all the home baked treats that Marla provided.  He was a lifelong fan of the Dodgers, and he collected coins and old tools.  In Parkersburg, he was known for his epic garage sales.  Most of all, Ervin loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ervin went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly, Iowa.  Ervin is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Peggy; an infant son, Marshall George Haan; his parents, George and Margaret Haan; and his siblings, Lorraine (Elmer) Kannegieter, Arthur (Dorothy) Haan, Hattie (John) McCaffery and Melvin Haan.

Ervin is survived by three children, Matthew & Michelle Haan of Hudson, Iowa, Mark & JoAnn Haan of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Marti & Rick Pruhs of Waverly; nine grandchildren, Micah (Brooke), McKenzie & Morgan Haan, Katelyn (Jonny) Macfarlane, Larissa (Conner) Brandt, Ellie Haan, Zachary and Cade Pruhs and Chloe (Matthew) Taylor; six great grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Barbara (Tommy) Christopherson, of Ackley, Iowa, and Virginia Haan of New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Stout Gospel Hall in Stout, Iowa, with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from.4:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, at the Redman Funeral & Cremation Services – Parkersburg Funeral Home and one hour before services at the gospel hall.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
