Crossroads Mall Redevelopment Plans Formally Unveiled in Waterloo

Developers will soon begin the reimagining of the future of Crossroads Mall. It will be known as “The Boulevard at Crossroads.” Developers Wednesday invited area residents to learn about the project’s vision and share their ideas for the site’s future. The ATI Group and McClure unveiled their plans at an hour-long community meeting. The development would be a mixed-use destination on Waterloo’s southeast side. It will feature spaces for restaurants, retail, and entertainment. Developers said the entire mall structure will be demolished due to safety concerns and structural issues. Developer BJ Stokesbary.

Environmental surveys have been completed and some utility work needs to be done. That’s set to take place in November and December. Demolition is scheduled to start after the holidays, and last about 8 months.  Stokesbary talks more about the reasoning behind the mixed-use plan. 

Infrastructure projects could begin by 2027 and the full development process at the site could take between five to 10 years. Waterloo Mayor Quentin Hart says he’s excited for the redevelopment plan.

Only one tenant remains at Crossroads Mall and that’s Geno’s Pizza.  They will leave at the end of their lease in late December.
