Teen Hit In Head By Bullet Fragments in Waterloo Shooting

Waterloo Police are investigating after they say bullet fragments from a shooting hit a young woman in the head. MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center doctors called police early Wednesday morning after a 17-year-old girl came to the hospital in a private vehicle.  Police began an investigation, and determined the teenager was a passenger in a vehicle when someone shot at it around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday night. They say bullet fragments hit the teen in the head. The shooting happened in the alley in the 900 block of Wellington Street, near West 8th Street. Police say doctors transferred the girl to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, but consider her injuries to be non-life threatening. No other information about the suspects is available at this time, but their investigation continues.
