Larry E. Thomason, 87, Evansdale

Larry E. Thomason, 87, of Evansdale, died peacefully in his home, August 26, 2025.

He was born June 20, 1938, in Charles City, IA, son of Gaylen and Lorraine (Hammond) Thomason. Larry attended school in Cedar Falls and Nashua, graduating from Nashua High School in 1957. Larry & Lois Leistikow were childhood sweethearts, meeting at the roller rink in Cedar Falls when they were 12 years old. They were married June 23, 1957, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo, and had five beautiful children, Daniel, Steven, Teresa, Michael & Kristin. The family lived in several different states, where Larry worked in the floorcovering business, retiring in 2000.

Larry enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed golf, camping, running 29 marathons, and riding his bicycle with his brother, all over the United States, including Canada on one excursion. He also enjoyed his music, including Elvis, back in his day, and all the “oldies.” He even learned to play the dulcimer and loved painting beautiful pictures. Larry also enjoyed sports, the Vikings & his family Fantasy Football League of 20 years.

Outside his family, his restored 1965 Pontiac Grand Prix was his pride and joy. He loved taking it to car shows and especially cruising in the 4th Street Cruise

Larry was so proud of his family, and enjoyed all our large family get-togethers, and when anyone dropped in for a visit.

Larry is survived by his wife. Lois Thomason. of Evansdale; his children, Daniel Thomason of Charles City, Teresa Miller of Charles City, Michael (Linda) Thomason of Wautoma WI, and Kristin (Joseph) Becker of Greene; brother Spencer Thomason (Connie); sister Marilyn Hemmen; sister-in-law Cherryl Thomason; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; & several cousins.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Gaylen and Lorraine, his stepfather, Howard Powers, his son, Steven, brothers, Stanley & Ronald, & brother-in-law, Hank Hemmen.

Family will receive friends for visitation at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave., Waterloo, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday, September 4, 2025. The funeral will also be held at Locke at Tower Park, at 2:00 PM Friday, September 5, 2025, with visitation one hour before the service.

Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Waterloo. Condolences may be left at www.LockeFuneralServices.com. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association.
