Ben McCollum was formally introduced Tuesday as the new head men’s basketball coach at the University of Iowa. McCollum, an Iowa City native, will be the 23rd head coach in program history. He spent this past season with Drake leading the Bulldogs to a 31-4 season and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Drake made it to the second round of the tournament for the first time since 1971, but fell to Texas Tech last Saturday. McCollum takes over for Fran McCaffery, who was fired earlier this month after 15 seasons as the Hawkeyes head coach.
